Finding the Right Wedding Readings

Wedding readings are meant to share the couple's idea of love and marriage with their closest friends and family. Readings can include all different texts with all different meanings. Your wedding readings can be sweet or funny, long or short, it really depends on what you as a couple would like.

Choosing Your Reading

As mentioned before, the readings you choose for your wedding should be special to you as a couple. When you first start looking, think of readings you know. Is there some particular reading or poem that you like? Are there authors or essayists that you and your future spouse like? If so, start by looking at material written by that person. If not, don't worry about it. There are plenty of wedding websites that can help you find the right reading.

Next, you need to think about the message you want to convey. Do you want to talk about friendship? Laughter? Love? God? This will help narrow down your search.

As you're searching, try to find a reading that is no longer than five minutes in length. Anything longer will test your audience's attention span. If you find a long reading, just choose a portion of it to share with the group.

When to Give the Reading

Every wedding is different, but readings are typically given during the ceremony before the couple says their vows. It doesn't matter who gives it. The pastor can give it. The bride's father can give it or a good friend can give it.

To make your reading go smoothly, make sure to get the reading to whoever is reading at least a month before the wedding. This will give them plenty of time to review and practice the reading.

Make sure to ask the reader to introduce themselves when they take the stage. This will help the audience understand why you chose them to do the reading. Also, remember to invite the reader to your wedding rehearsal. It's a good idea to have them run through even a portion of it. This will make them more comfortable giving the wedding readings in front of a large group.

Wedding season in bloom on Taunton Green

Standing among the tulips, the blossoming cherry and dogwood trees, and basking in a warm spring breeze, Damien Hopkins and Kimberly Brown exchanged vows on Taunton Green Tuesday evening. "This is your wedding day," announced Town Clerk Rose Marie Blackwell, who officiated the ceremony. "Our hearts are filled with so many hopes and dreams." About 35 friends and family members from as far away as Tennessee witnessed the ceremony. "I think it was so very, very nice," said the mother of the groom, Toni Hopkins. "It pleases me they made a commitment for life." The Taunton Green and the Vietnam Memorial Fountain at Church Green are looking their best as another busy wedding season gets underway, one in which Blackwell expects to perform about 30 outdoor ceremonies each year. To make them unique, she includes readings from the bride and groom as well as portions of popular wedding verse such as the Apache Prayer, which she recites from memory.

Ashlee Simpson sells out wedding pix!

People magazine is reportedly coughing up "well over" a million buckaroos for the rights to Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz's wedding photos.

Well, as TMZ points out, that's probably more than she makes from her day job singing.

The mag says: "We're thrilled that celebrities continue to choose People as the place for their most intimate photos. We do not comment on specifics of any deals."

Wonder how much moola the first baby pix will go for?

Click here to see what Ashlee and Pete don't have to say about their wedding and their baby.

If you care, which I doubt you do.

Risque wedding dresses

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - - Are some brides pushing the envelope too far?

Not so long ago brides wanted to look sweet and virginal. Like princesses dressed in flowing white gowns. Now, the trend has gone from fairytale to flirtatious.

When hollywood stars choose sexy styles for their big day, other brides are ready to take the plunge.

Denise Cullinan sees it in her bridal shop in Williamsville all the time. The traditional wedding gown with long sleeves and a high neck is no longer the norm. Denise says this gown is one of her shop's most popular. Strapless gowns. Plunging neck lines. Wedding gowns have become more seductive over the years. But looking to hollywood isn't the only reason the traditional wedding dress has changed.

More brides like rachel skinner are now choosing destination weddings.

Jennerstown woman’s creation oversees wedding of president's daughter

A 20-foot-tall Somerset County lady became a VIP at Jenna Bush's wedding in Crawford, Texas, last weekend.Freedom's Angel of Steadfast Love, one of four such steel angel sculptures, was crafted and delivered by Jennerstown artist Lei Hennessy-Owen in October 2004.After locals adorned the angel with a wedding veil and bouquet in honor of the nuptials of President Bush's daughter, the dressed-up sculpture made newspapers nationwide as a symbol of the ceremony. The event itself was closed to the media, so photographers were limited to scenes from the town of Crawford – and the angel became the public "face" of the wedding.Owen said she is delighted that one of her angels became part of a celebration. The sculptures have been placed at sites of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, including the Flight 93 crash site near Shanksville, as a symbol of comfort and hope in the face of tragedy."It came from God," Owen said.

Out of this world wedding

A Star Wars mad couple have tied the knot in a wedding ceremony entirely based on the sci-fi films.

Bramwell Brightey, 33, dressed up as Han Solo to wed Tamsyn Lofts, 29, dressed as Princess Leia.

The service, at Leatherhead registry office, was watched by a Chewbacca, stormtroopers and an Obi Wan Kenobi, reports the Croydon Guardian.

Bramwell, from Epsom, Surrey, said: "We didn't really want a traditional church wedding... So we decided we'd do something different.

"We both like the Star Wars films but we're not fanatics or geeks. We figured that a lot of our friends liked the films as well and Star Wars is massive everywhere all around the world."

The pair originally wanted to hold the day on May 4 - as in "May the fourth be with you" - but instead waited until the following week which was their eighth anniversary together.
