Wedding season in bloom on Taunton Green

Standing among the tulips, the blossoming cherry and dogwood trees, and basking in a warm spring breeze, Damien Hopkins and Kimberly Brown exchanged vows on Taunton Green Tuesday evening. "This is your wedding day," announced Town Clerk Rose Marie Blackwell, who officiated the ceremony. "Our hearts are filled with so many hopes and dreams." About 35 friends and family members from as far away as Tennessee witnessed the ceremony. "I think it was so very, very nice," said the mother of the groom, Toni Hopkins. "It pleases me they made a commitment for life." The Taunton Green and the Vietnam Memorial Fountain at Church Green are looking their best as another busy wedding season gets underway, one in which Blackwell expects to perform about 30 outdoor ceremonies each year. To make them unique, she includes readings from the bride and groom as well as portions of popular wedding verse such as the Apache Prayer, which she recites from memory.

Think about what you were like before you became one. You see, I have a theory; I think motherhood turns most women into saints. The foundation of motherhood is usually built with nine months of being with-child, culminating with the agony of delivery, followed by round-the-clock feedings, countless diaper changes, and rocking the baby until it becomes an art form. The love grows exponentially, and soon is displayed by planting kisses on ‘boo-boos' when the toddler falls off the tricycle, along with enough readings of Dr. Seuss that every word of “Green Eggs and Ham" has been memorized. As a child matures, a mother's love is now displayed through conversations and support for her child's interests. During the teen years, she can suffer terribly, as the one she's poured her heart and soul into and loved unconditionally might now be rejecting her due to the adolescent's self-absorption.

Charlize Theron: Kids, Yes; Wedding, No!

No need trying to figure out when Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend will tie the knot.

"I always knew that I didn’t want to get married," Theron, 32, says in the new issue of W magazine. But she adds, "I’ve always known that I’d be a mom from the time I was a little girl."

As for their seven-year-romance, Theron, no surprise, won’t reveal too much. When asked to describe the relationship, the Oscar winner adopts a "cavewoman grunt," according to writer Gabriel Snyder, and says:

"Man, woman. Like to touch each other."

Theron doesn’t have such sweet words for critics who slam her for taking on so many "ugly" roles in order to hide her beauty. "Look, I get it," she says. "Monster was a transformation...[But] North Country was dirt.
